Optimism in the Wave of Pessimism (slow reading series, "public enemy" Hu Shi”s "true face" and the light he pointed out to China) 

Hu Shi was deeply influenced by Huxley and Dewey. He advocated liberalism all his life and was the pioneer of Chinese liberalism. Throughout his life, he advocated the research methods of "bold hypothesis, careful proof", "words must be proved", as well as the way of "serious work, serious man". Tolerance and freedom are the two main themes in Hu Shi”s life. Throughout his life, they have created a multi-faceted Hu Shi did not advocate the kind of inaction of saints in the East. He believes that life is about struggle. Even in a down and out situation, we should be optimistic and confident. One step at a time, one can be complacent and regard every kind of progress as a great hope. This is Hu Shi”s optimism about life. He always has hope in his heart. The optimism in pessimism is exactly the spirit we need most in this era.
