Jason Bruce was either assembled in a factory, as oft he tells his wife, or born in Burton Upon Trent (England) during the waning moon sign of Leo in 1969. The youngest of eight, his childhood was pretty much the norm, parents divorced, moving house every few years, getting put in a suitcase by an older brother, then pushed down the stairs, or the special treat of being locked in the boot of the car. Holidays to the south of France were many, which was where, at around the age of ten, he developed a taste for beer with the help of a wonderful invention named the vending machine. The years that followed were a joy, with new schools to settle into, new school bullies to get acquainted with, and some very nice chances to see what the inside of a police station was like. At fifteen and a half he refused to enter yet another school, and ended up at technical college studying metallurgy, and make things out of it. This led to a further course of study in welding, where as it would turn out, the same satellite antenas he produced, which were exported to Iraq, were blown up by the Royal Air Force, who became his new employers when he was nineteen. The RAF were good to him for six years, teaching him how to fix aeroplanes, drink beer like it was going out of fashion, and the best thing of all, the art of sarcasm, and how to be the brunt of a joke. The RAF was also where he discovered Karate, the reason he gave everything up, and moved to Japan where he has lived since 1995, speaking broken Japanese with his lovely wife, and two children, in between writing whatever novel, screenplay, or T.V series that pops into his addled brain. Finally, he bases his outlook on life on a line from Shakespeare”s Twelth Night, by the character Malvolio, which goes, “Better a witty fool, than a foolish wit.”
