Louisiana, end of 1800: Creole families, French settlers descendants, are melted with the rest of the Anglo-Saxon society in the United States. In that world that she feels tight, the twenty-eight Edna Pontellier – Kentucky native but married to a business man from the ancient New Orleans french bourgeoisie – gradually mature a feeling for independence and the desire to emancipate from her husband and childreen. She needs to awaken her ‘authentic self’. All around her, men imprisoned by roles, slaves of habits and social conventions really hard to break free. Edna’s path will be a supreme inner revolution.
