Puppy Love 

In Puppy Love, three abandoned, scrawny puppies are rescued by a family. There are three pets living with the family already so father plans to put the puppies up for adoption as soon as they regain their healthy appearance. His plans go awry as his three little daughters refuse to give them up. Soon, the entire family falls under the spell of the puppies and father has a tougher time deciding whether to keep them or put them up for adoption as planned. I was born In San Antonio Matute, Jalisco, Mexico. My father died when I was seven years old. At the age of twelve and a half I came to the U. S. hoping to get a job. Instead, I ended up continuing my education, interrupted in Mexico due to the family’s financial situation. I was fortunate enough to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies, a teaching credential and, much later, a Master’s Degree in Bilingual Education at San Diego State University. Later, while I was holding a full-time job teaching, I took a correspondence course in children’s literature, during which time I wrote four short stories. One of those stories is ‘Puppy Love’. In this story, an old lady dies, leaving her beloved, pregnant dog behind. A family friend’s son, Robbie, goes to her house to pick up the dog but finds, instead, three little puppies alone that, apparently, haven’t eaten for days. He takes them home where the family intends to nurture them back to health and then put them up for adoption. Robbie’s three little sisters have other ideas, though, and the decision to put them up for adoption becomes more difficult for their father. What will happen to the puppies? Will they be adopted or will the three sisters be allowed to keep them? Read the story to find out.
