Renowned archaeologist and biologist, John Lubbock was considered by some to have been the greatest educator of his time.Lubbock was the eldest son of a baronet, Sir John William Lubbock and was a member of parliament from 1870, where he introduced many reform bills, and is remembered for his bill that introduced bank holidays. Lubbock made significant original scientific contributions to entomology and anthropology He published some twenty-five books, over a hundred scientific papers, and gave lectures on subjects ranging from free trade to the forces that formed the Alps, the hearing of Crustacea, and the pleasures of life.
The Pleasures of Life is one of his most popular works.
