Grassroots Officials tells a story of reassignment of Liu Kefu, a ‘lefty’ in a county in South China from the position of physics teacher in county middle school to county government. Being people-oriented, Liu improved his abilities at county, township and village level, solved troubles for the mass, upheld justice, resisted ‘hidden rules’ of official circle, made arduous progresses in the over complicated official circle, suffered difficulties and even lost his love, and eventually served as Secretary of County Party Committee. It’s also accompanied with twists and turns of County Chief Ying Yuan, Secretary of County Party Committee Fang Wenzhang, Office Director Lin Qu, Deputy Office Director Su Xinhui and other officials. Personal emotional experiences of Liu Kefu and several other officials, including complicated emotional entanglements between County Chief Ying Yuan and Deputy Office Director Su Xinhui (Liu Kefu’s wife), are also introduced during the story. Those events add more interesting plots to the novel, which are told in a plain manner with ups and downs.
