Der Neffe als Onkel Friedrich Schiller – Valcour tritt eilfertig herein, und nachdem er sich überall umgesehen, ob Niemand zulegen, tritt er zu einem von den Wachslichtern, die vorn auf einem Schreibtisch brennen, und liest ein Billet.’Herr von Valcour wird ersucht, diesen Abend um sechs Uhr sich im Gartensaal des Herrn von Dorsigny einzufinden. Er kann zu dem kleinen Pförtchen herein kommen, das den ganzen Tag offen ist. ‘Keine Unterschrift!Hm! Hm! Ein seltsames Abenteuer Ist’s vielleicht eine hübsche Frau, die mir hier ein Rendezvous geben will?Das wäre allerliebst.Aber still! Wer sind die beiden Figuren, die eben da eintreten, wo ich hereingekommen bin?Zweiter Auftritt.

Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller (November 10, 1759 May 9, 1805) was a German poet, philosopher, historian, and dramatist. During the last few years of his life (17881805), Schiller struck up a productive, if complicated, friendship with already famous and influential Johann Wolfgang Goethe, with whom he greatly discussed issues concerning aesthetics, encouraging Goethe to finish works he left merely as sketches; this thereby gave way to a period now referred to as Weimar Classicism. They also worked together on Die Xenien (The Xenies), a collection of short but harshly satiric poems in which both Schiller and Goethe verbally attacked those persons they perceived to be enemies of their aesthetic agenda.
