Charlotte Brontë (1816–1855) was an English writer and the eldest of the Brontë sisters. Writing under the male pseudonym of Currer Bell, she published a book of poetry with her sisters, Emily and Anne, in 1846. Her first published novel ‘Jane Eyre’ (1847) is a widely celebrated classic of English literature and features themes of early feminism.
