HP Lovecraft nasceu em 1890, em Rhode Island, nos Estados Unidos.
Quando tinha três anos, seu pai sofreu uma crise nervosa e ficou confinado em uma clínica de repouso até o fim da vida. O garoto foi criado pela mãe e pelo avô. Precoce, Lovecraft recitava poemas desde os dois anos de idade.
Durante a juventude, dedicou-se à poesia, adotando a ficção apenas a partir de 1917. Morreu aos 46 anos, vítima de câncer.
