Pauline Winsome Beard is Professor Emerita of English at Pacific University Oregon, USA, and is the author of A Riddling Thing: A Study of Time in Five Twentieth Century Novels. She also co-edited Pacific Coast Philology, and has published a chapter on Lawrence Durrell in Lawrence Durrell and The Greek World and essays on Durrell and Italo Calvino. Professor Beard has presented papers on Austen, Durrell, Joyce, Clara Reeves and Aphra Behn, and Barbara Kingsolver, and has published essays on Austen in Persuasions, and reviews in the newsletter of the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA). She was the co-coordinator of JASNA”s 2010 AGM in Portland Oregon, and served as the JASNA visiting scholar for the Western Region in 2012.
