Shahrukh Husain nació en 1950 en Karachi (Pakistán). Hija del príncipe Ahmed Husain y de Sabeeha (Ahmed) Husain, se licenció en la Escuela de Estudios Orientales y Africanos de la Universidad de Londres, y es una apasionada de la mitología y del folclore. Afirma haber sido presa del influjo de las brujas desde la infancia y que eso ha hecho que se involucre en el mundo de lo sobrenatural. Es autora, entre otras obras, de «El Libro de las Brujas» (1993) y de «La Diosa» (2003). Su adaptación de la obra de Anita Desai, «In Custody», para la productora Merchant Ivory, la hizo merecedora del Premio Nacional de Cine de la India en 1994. Actualmente reside en Londres, donde es miembro del Royal Literary Fund.
