This book examines the interaction of design with advances in technology, developments in science, and changing cultural attitudes. It looks to the past to prepare for the future and is the first book to offer an innovative transdisciplinary design history that integrates multidisciplinary sources of knowledge into a mindful whole. A distinguished writer, researcher, and teacher on matters of design, Maurice Barnwell received his education in Birmingham and Toronto. He has worked and taught at York University, Toronto; Ontario College of Art and Design University; Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Ryerson University; and the Institute without Boundaries. In February 1991 he founded Idforum, the first computer newsgroup dedicated to the world of industrial design. Maurice is a well-traveled speaker and has presented at various noted venues.
