N. Ravichandran graduated from IIT Madras in 1980. The same year, he joined IIM Ahmedabad as a faculty in the production and quantitative methods (P&QM) area. He has taught several courses in the areas of operations research, operations management and competitive strategy. He provided transformational leadership to IIM Indore in the capacity of director from November 2008 to January 2014. He is the founder president of the Case Research Society of India (CRSI) which was created to promote the case method of teaching in Indian business schools. He has also founded a not-for-profit foundation, Management Research Foundation (MRF), to improve the quality of management education in India.
