Although for many visitors the Kalahari evokes images of winter game drives in a vast desertof thirsty red sands, it is the capricious summer landscape that has been luring painter andphotographer Robert Grogan back to this region for more than 30 years. Together with hiswife Lee, he has braved unpredictable, sometimes violent storms, impassable roads, fierceheat and humidity, insects and tall grass for the chance to paint the summer cloud banks andstartling local transformations rendered by the rains. He has photographed, too, not just theiconic game, big cats and raptors, but also more transient delights of the season, like thebutterflies, meadows of wildflowers and the springbok lambing season.
