Arriving in the World too Soon 

The more concentratedly we try to enter into the inner world of the pre-term infant the more necessary it is to leave behind us every shred of experience we have ever had. Nothing is of any relevance for this encounter. We are confronted with having no knowledge, no experience and this to an degree we would otherwise avoid at all costs. Through the juxtaposition of images, observations and reflections this book tries to help us come as close as is possible to the subjective experience of a baby born before term.


Je intensiver wir versuchen, uns auf die Welt der Frühgeborenen einzulassen, desto notwendiger wird es, alles hinter uns zu lassen, was uns an Erfahrung zur Verfügung steht. Nichts gilt mehr. Wir werden in einem Ausmaß mit Nicht-Wissen und Nicht-Erfahrung konfrontiert, das wir sonst tunlichst vermeiden. Dieser Band versucht, Bild, Beobachtung und Gedanken so zusammenzubringen, dass wir möglichst nahe an das subjektive Erleben der Frühchen herangeführt werden. Jedes zehnte Kind wird heutzutage zu früh geboren. Die Hightechmedizin ermöglicht, dass immer mehr Frühgeborene überleben. Ihr körperliches Gedeihen ist das Kriterium, an dem sich derzeit die Qualität der medizinischen Versorgung misst. Doch wie sieht das psychische Erleben von Frühgeborenen aus? Agathe Israel und Björn Reißmann führen uns durch die Verbindung von Fotografie und Beobachtung hautnah an das Erleben der Frühchen heran. Die beeindruckende Intensität der Fotos ermöglicht uns, dass wir uns auf die Welt der Frühgeborenen einlassen können.
