Arthur Quiller-Couch, born on November 21, 1863, in Bodmin, Cornwall, was a prolific British writer, poet, and literary critic, known for his significant contributions to English literature and criticism. Often writing under the pseudonym ‘Q’, Quiller-Couch was educated at Clifton College, Oxford University and later became a lecturer at Cambridge. His scholarly pursuits culminated in his anthology series ‘The Oxford Book of English Verse 1250–1900’ and a subsequent series of lectures published as ‘On the Art of Writing’ (1916). He was known for his emphasis on the importance of writing with clarity and simplicity, and his critique often focused on the usage of English rather than on the substance of the work.
