Benson, was a distinguished English essayist, poet, and author born on April 24, 1862, at Wellington College in Berkshire, where his father, Edward White Benson, later the Archbishop of Canterbury, was serving as headmaster. Educated at Eton and King”s College, Cambridge, Benson followed in his father”s academic footsteps, ultimately carving out a significant career for himself both as a teacher at Eton College and as a prolific writer. His literary output was diverse, encompassing essays, diaries, poetry, and fiction, including the thoughtful novel “Cressage” which illuminates his nuanced understanding of human relationships and social mores.
