About the author


Sir Arthur Thomas Quiller-Couch (1863-1944) was a British writer who published under the pen name—pen letter, rather—of Q.  He is remembered as the editor of The Oxford Book of English Verse 1250-1900 (1900) and for the novel Dead Man’s Rock (1887).  He was reportedly the inspiration for the character of Ratty in The Wind and the Willows.  Q was knighted in 1910.
