About the author


Alexandre Dumas, pere (1802–1870) was a French novelist. With very little education, he began his writing career as a playwright, first achieving success with Henri III and His Court in 1829. He became an enormously popular novelist with the Romantic novels The Three Musketeers (1844), The Count of Monte Cristo (1845-6), and The Black Tulip (1850).
