Algernon Charles Swinburne (1837–1909) was a controversial English poet and literary critic. After creating the poetic form of the roundel, he published several collections of poetry, including the sensational Poems and Ballads, First Series and Atalanta in Calydon. From 1903-1909 he was consistently nominated for the Nobel Prize in literature, though he never received the award.
