Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle (1859–1930) was a seminal British author best known for his detective fiction featuring the iconic character Sherlock Holmes. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Doyle initially pursued a medical career, graduating from the University of Edinburgh Medical School. However, his passion for writing prevailed, and he published his first Holmes story, ‘A Study in Scarlet, ‘ in 1887, creating a character that would define an era of mystery and crime fiction. His outstanding contribution to literature includes a rich tapestry of works, but none so enduring as the Holmes series.
