Atiq Rahimi, 1962 in Kabul geboren, studierte Literatur. 1984 floh er nach Frankreich, wo er u. a. als Dokumentarfilmer tätig ist. Sein vielbeachtetes Debüt Erde und Asche wurde 2004 verfilmt, sein dritter Roman Stein der Geduld wurde 2008 mit dem Prix Goncourt ausgezeichnet und stand in Frankreich monatelang auf der Bestsellerliste.
