Charles Lamb (1775-1834) was an English essayist and critic best known for a series of autobiographical essays written under the pseudonym of Elia.  With his sister, Mary Lamb (1764-1847), he adapted Shakespeare’s plays for children in
Tales from Shakespeare (1807).
