About the author

Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) was an American writer, best known for his creation of the jungle hero Tarzan and the heroic Mars adventurer John Carter, although he produced works in many genres. Burroughs was born in Chicago, Illinois, and, after a series of unfulfilling jobs, he began writing fiction in 1911. His first published work was ‘Under the Moons of Mars’ in 1912, serialized in the magazine ‘The All-Story’ under the name Norman Bean, which introduced his science fiction series, Barsoom. However, it was the appearance of ‘Tarzan of the Apes’ later that same year that catapulted him to lasting fame. This novel, the first in a series, tells the story of a boy raised by apes in the African jungles and has been adapted into numerous films, television programs, and radio shows. Burroughs was a prolific writer, and by the time of his death, he had authored nearly 70 novels. A war correspondent during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Burroughs also served as a war correspondent during World War II at the age of 66. Despite the fantastical elements, his work has been praised for its rich imagination, fast-paced narratives, and ability to transport readers to unknown worlds. ‘TARZAN: 8 Novels in One Volume’ is a collection that showcases Burroughs’s narrative power and his significant contribution to the adventure and science fiction genres.
