In Our Time by Ernest Hemingway was one of his first books written of short stories, published in 1925. Ernest Hemingway’s writing style attracted Edmund Wilson, a literary critic, who considered ‘In Our Time’ one of Hemingway’s first masterpieces.


This title was derived from the English Book of Common Prayer, ‘Give peace in our time, O Lord.’ The themes of the short stories include those of alienation, grief, loss, separation. 


Hemingway’s writing style attracted attention, with literary critic Edmund Wilson saying it was of the first distinction, the 1925 edition of In Our Time is considered one of Hemingway’s early masterpieces.


Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961) was an American writer, journalist, and sportsman. His literary style had a profound influence on twentieth-century fiction. His classic novels include ‘A Farewell to Arms’, ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’, ‘The Sun Also Rises’, and ‘The Old Man and the Sea.’
