‘The Gods of Mars’ is a science fiction novel written by Edgar Rice Burroughs and published in 1918. It is the second book in the ‘Barsoom’ series, following ‘A Princess of Mars.’ The story continues the adventures of John Carter, a former Confederate soldier who finds himself transported to the planet Mars, known as Barsoom by its inhabitants.

In ‘The Gods of Mars, ‘ John Carter returns to Mars after a ten-year separation from his beloved Dejah Thoris, the princess of Helium. However, upon his arrival, he discovers that the Barsoom he knew has undergone significant changes. The ancient religion of the Therns and their supposed divine power over the Martian civilization are revealed to be fraudulent, and the true gods of Mars are mysterious and malevolent creatures.

Carter embarks on a thrilling journey to rescue his princess and uncover the secrets of the gods. Along the way, he encounters new allies and adversaries, faces deadly challenges, and explores the unique and dangerous Martian landscape.
