Gerdt Bernhard von Bassewitz-Hohenluckow nasceu em 4 de janeiro de 1878, em Allewind. Filho de um alto funcionário público prussiano da nobreza de Mecklenburg, ele foi tenente no serviço prussiano, um escritor e ator alemão, que ficou conhecido pelo seu conto de fadas ‘A viagem de Pedrinho à Lua’.
