Sir Hugh Seymour Walpole was a prolific English novelist and story writer, whose literary career spanned the early to mid-20th century. Born on March 13, 1884, in Auckland, New Zealand, Walpole was the son of an Anglican clergyman. He was educated in England at King’s School, Canterbury, and Emmanuel College, Cambridge. Walpole worked as a schoolmaster before becoming a full-time writer, achieving fame with his third novel ‘Mr. Perrin and Mr. Traill’ and sustaining his reputation with a series of well-crafted novels that combine a fascination with the macabre and supernatural with deep psychological insights and a strong narrative drive. ‘The Blind Man’s House—A Quiet Story, ‘ offers a poignant examination of the inner life of its characters, reflective of Walpole’s interest in the complexity of human emotions and interrelationships.
