George Lowe (1924–2013) war Bergsteiger, Forschungsreisender,
Fotograf und Filmemacher. 1953 nahm er an der britischen Everest-Expedition,
kurz darauf an der Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition
teil, mit der er die Antarktis durchquerte und den Südpol erreichte.
Beide Abenteuer hielt er in Dokumentarfilmen fest. Er arbeitete im
Schulwesen und begründete 1989 den Himalayan Trust mit. Er lebte
zuletzt in Derbyshire, England.
Dr. Huw Lewis-Jones, Jahrgang 1980, studierte Geschichte und
arbeitete als Kurator am Scott Polar Research Institute, Cambridge,
und am National Maritime Museum, London. Er hat zahlreiche Bücher
über legendäre Bergabenteuer und die Polarwelt verfasst. Heute ist er
als Verleger im britischen Verlag Polarworld tätig.
