Blenkiron, the American determined to fight the Kaiser; and Sandy Arbuthnot, Greenmantle himself, modelled on Lawrence of Arabia. However, they must begin the task with no clues except three words scribbled on a piece of paper – Kasredin, cancer, and v.I.
