John Bunyan (1628–1688) was an English writer and Puritan preacher best known for his allegorical novel ‘The Pilgrim’s Progress, ‘ which has been regarded as one of the most significant works of religious English literature. Although largely self-educated, Bunyan’s works reflect a profound understanding of the human condition and a deep knowledge of the Bible. Born in Bedfordshire, Bunyan experienced a spiritual conversion that profoundly influenced his writings, culminating in his masterpiece, ‘The Pilgrim’s Progress, ‘ which has been translated into over 200 languages and has never been out of print since its publication in 1678 (Brown, 1988). Bunyan’s literary style combined vivid imagery and simplicity, making theological concepts accessible to a wide audience.
