The 30-episode TV series Village Folks is adapted from Li Zhuyao”s full-length novel The Times. The TV series was jointly created by China Intercontinental Communication Center under the State Council, Publicity Department of Shanxi Provincial Party Committee and CCTV. It is a customary picture of the Central Hebei Plain and an epic of rural reform in China. The novel is based on the Dongdixia Village on the banks of the Heilong River and describes the vicissitudes since the founding of People”s Republic of China in about 50 years. The changes caused conflicts between old and new ideas, which promoted and spurred the changes of life, spirits and psychology of people in all walks of life, thus led to the fights between progress and backwardness, public and private, and noble and despicable deeds in many stories of joys and sorrows. Despite the rough and hardships, the three generations represented by Brother Shi, Shi Dahang, Lu Zifan, Han Zhengmang and Li Pingan have been withstanding the tide and leading the history.
