ANTOINE DE DE SAINT EXUPERY (*19001944), el autor de EL PRINCIPITO, fue un aviador y literato francés que sólo vivió escasos 44 años. Nació en Lyon, en 1900 y falleció en 1944. En realidad, nunca se supo que ocurrió con él. Saint-Exupéry desapareció para siempre en una misión de reconocimiento, cuando sobrevolaba la Francia ocupada por los nazis, durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Saint- Exupéry comenzó escribiendo en prosa lírica vivencias de carácter novelesco y, posteriormente, continuó con diarios, informes y cartas. Sus textos son consecuencia de reflexiones profundas de índole humanista y de crítica a la cultura. Entre sus novelas sobresalen VUELO NOCTURNO y EL CORREO DEL SUR. Como diario dio vida a PILOTO DE GUERRA. Pero su obra más famosa y por la que ha trascendido es EL PRINCIPITO, un cuento largo que en formato de libro ha batido récords de venta en el mundo y en todos los idiomas desde 1943, año en que se publicó por primera vez en francés. EL PRINCIPITO es su obra máxima. En sus páginas se evocan -de manera sencilla y clara- los valores más arraigados y esenciales del humanismo, donde quedan de manifiesto la solidaridad, bondad, entereza, tenacidad, compañerismo y entusiasmo por el conocimiento. El libro es un símbolo de búsqueda permanente del hombre, de aquellos principios que enriquecen el espíritu y que traen paz infinita al alma.
