Stuart Dodgson Collingwood (1870–1937) was an English author and clergyman, most notably recognized for his literary work on his uncle, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, better known by his pen name, Lewis Carroll. Born into an intellectual family, Collingwood was well-placed to author the biography „The Life & Letters of Lewis Carroll, ” a primary source for Carroll scholars providing insights into the life of the famous children”s author and mathematician. Published in 1898, Collingwood”s book was one of the earliest biographies of Carroll, offering a personal and familial perspective into the author of „Alice”s Adventures in Wonderland.” Collingwood”s narrative drew from a rich collection of Carroll”s letters, integrating personal anecdotes with documented correspondences. His careful portrayal of Carroll blended scholarly respect with a nephew”s affection, contributing to the literary world”s understanding of the Victorian author”s complex character.
