In Blood Court, Zhu Yong reinterprets the drastically changed history of the late Qing Dynasty from the perspective of Emperor Guangxu, Empress Dowager Cixi, Empress Longyu and Li Lianying. Everyone in the novel is panicked, hesitant and entangled, so that the "horror atmosphere" on the eve of the fall of a dynasty could be fully presented through the hearts of these figures at the top of the country”s power. By showing the ghostly depths of the human nature that is obscured by political discourse, vivid and three-dimensional people have been created, and a sunken dynasty has been better shaped through these living images.
