Behind the Hedges, journalist Rich Whitt focused his investigative lens on recent events at the University of Georgia, and in so doing examined the bigger story of ‘a sea change in how America supports its institutions of higher education.’ Through interviews with many key figures in a struggle for power at UGA over the last decade, Rich examines the controversial tenure of Michael Adams as UGA president, and how this controversy led to the unprecedented split between the Board of Regents and the UGA Foundation, with implications for the landscape of higher education funding nationwide.

About the author

A native of Eastern Kentucky, RICH WHITT (1945-2009) was a reporter for more than thirty years, during which time he won numerous awards including the Pulitzer Prize for local reporting while reporting for The Courier-Journal in Louisville. Whitt attended the University of Kentucky and was inducted into the school’s Journalism Hall of Fame in 1995. He lived in Georgia since 1989 and reported on state and local government for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution before retiring in 2007.
