Robert Ervin Howard (1906–1936) was an American author who is particularly renowned for his significant contributions to the sword-and-sorcery genre. A native of Peaster, Texas, Howard spent most of his life in the small town of Cross Plains. With a fervent imagination from a young age, he began writing stories of grandeur and myth. Howard is most famous for creating the character Conan the Barbarian, a figure which has become synonymous with high fantasy and adventure. His characterizations often feature stoic, larger-than-life protagonists stationed in ancient or imaginary realms and are defined by a clear moral compass and physical prowess.
