Rudolph Fisher (1897-1934) foi um dos principais nomes do movimento cultural chamado Renascimento do Harlem. Bacharel e mestre em Artes pela Universidade Brown, posteriormente se graduou em Medicina pela Universidade Howard. Atuou com sucesso na área de radiologia, tendo sido pesquisador no Hospital Internacional de Manhattan e superintendente no Hospital Internacional do Harlem. Sua experiência com a medicina rendeu material para sua carreira como escritor de contos e romances de mistério. Foi também ensaísta, músico e orador. Morreu aos 37 anos, dois anos após publicar seu segundo romance, A morte do adivinho.
