Steven Amsterdam, geboren 1966 in New York City, war zunächst als Kartenherausgeber, Konditor und Produktionsassistent tätig. Seit 2003 lebt er in Melbourne, wo er als Schriftsteller und Palliativpfleger arbeitet. Sein Debüt Things We Didn”t See Coming wurde von der australischen Tageszeitung The Age als Buch des Jahres ausgezeichnet und von The Guardian für den First Book Award nominiert. Sein zweites Buch What the Family Needed war für den International IMPAC Prize und den Encore Award nominiert.
