Susan Abulhawa, 1970 geboren als Kind palästinensischer Flüchtlinge, wuchs in Kuwait, Jordanien und Jerusalem auf. Als Teenager ging sie in die USA, studierte Biomedizin und lebt heute in Pennsylvania. Die Autorin engagiert sich für die Menschenrechte und die Verbesserung der Lebensumstände von palästinensischen Kindern in besetzten Gebieten. 2001 gründete sie die nicht staatliche Kinderorganisation Playgrounds for Palestine. Ihre Romane sind internationale Bestseller. »Während die Welt schlief« wurde in 30 Sprachen übersetzt, »Ihr letzter Tanz« ist für den »Aspen Words Literary Prize nominiert«.
