Cover of Thomas S. Clary: Horizons in Computer Science Research. Volume 24 (PDF)
This volume contains eight chapters that present recent and future concepts in computer science research. In chapter one the authors investigate multi-objective evolutionary algorithms based on adaptive strategies. Chapter two analyses the differences shown by university students from two different environments, specifically students from small towns located in rural settings, and students from Madrid, the capital of Spain. The significance of XOR-based network coding scheme in lowering traffic and energy consumption is explored in chapter three. The authors in chapter four design a new quadratic tracking control algorithm based on the integral equation approach in linear continuous-time systems. In chapter five the authors propose a lightweight approach for the quick identification of words in American Sign Language (ASL) to improve the communication between deaf and hearing individuals using handheld devices. The purpose of chapter six is to introduce a new method in ontologies’ structural evaluation, namely the graph-independent approach. In chapter seven the authors propose a new approach to text pre-processing needed for the task of creating a reverse dictionary that is a realization of terminology methods in machine learning. Chapter eight develops the idea that speech itself is functional-formerly Turing Complete-through the linguistics of Ogden and Richards, and the Ordinary Language Philosophy of Austin, Searle and Grice.
