Cover of Tim Lewin: HMS BELFAST 1938-2018 (ePUB)
A book of specially commissioned paintings by celebrated marine artist Jim Rae commemorating the 80th anniversary of the launching of HMS Belfast on St. Patrick’s Day 1938 at the Belfast yard of Harland & Wolff. The paintings plot the highlights in the life of the ship’s active service career; the capture of the Nazi blockade runner ‘SS Cap Norte’, her near fatal mining in the Forth, Arctic convoy protection and the pivotal sinking of the Scharnhorst on Boxing Day 1943 and on to the Far East; the ‘Yangtse Incident’ with HMS Amethyst and the Korean War. This book captures the exhilarating life of this world-famous warship. Jim Rae is a former RN man and knows ships intimately, his work is accurate in every detail. The original book was printed in a limited edition run only as a souvenir for the guests attending the anniversary celebration but proved so popular the publishers decided to open the circulation as an e Book worldwide. The publishers, Lewin of Greenwich Organisation take their name from Terry Lewin who served as a Midshipman in HMS Belfast immediately after she was commissioned into the Royal Navy on the Eve of WW2. Terry Lewin went on to the post of Commander in Chief in 1982 at the time of the Falklands Conflict.
