Confucianism and Taoism and Modern Society 

This book is based on the lecture notes of the general education course of the same name. Its main purpose is not only to introduce the original Confucianism and Taoism to students, but also to inspire students to use the Confucianism and Taoism they have learned to think about and respond to practical problems encountered in modern social life. It shows the author”s critical thinking on Confucianism. The book is divided into four parts. The first part examines Confucian and Taoist views on political obligations; the second part discusses the Confucian tradition of filial piety and its difficulties, as well as Daoist criticism of it; the third part introduces the Confucian and Taoist views on women; the fourth part analyzes the attitudes of Confucianism and Taoism towards animals.
