Herman Cyril Mc Neile, better known by his pen name ‘Sapper, ‘ was an English author born on September 28, 1888, in Bodmin, Cornwall. Mc Neile’s service in the British army during World War I greatly influenced his writing, and he utilized his frontline experiences to infuse authenticity into his stories. After the war, Mc Neile turned to writing, quickly gaining popularity for his mystery and adventure novels featuring the character Bulldog Drummond, a demobilized officer who becomes a detective.
