Willa Sibert Cather (December 7, 1873 – April 24, 1947) was an American writer who achieved recognition for her novels of frontier life on the Great Plains.

Pearl Zane Grey (1872 – 1939) was an American author and dentist best known for his popular adventure novels and stories associated with the Western genre in literature and the arts.

Andy Adams (1859–1935) was one of the few writers of the West who had a knowledge based on experience that enabled him to record cowboy life authentically.

Max Brand (May 29, 1892 – May 12, 1944) was an American author known primarily for his Western stories.

Jack London (born John Griffith Chaney; January 12, 1876 – November 22, 1916) was an American novelist, journalist, and social activist. A pioneer of commercial fiction and American magazines.
