Even the Birds Grow Silent is a collection of narrative fragments told by Death herself. Death feels she gets a very bad press nowadays, and is keen to tell her side of the story. From singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, to writer Virginia Woolf, to the tragic life of Lady Jane Grey, the Nine Days’ Queen, Death has walked in their shadows and now, for the first time, shares her insights on them. She was there at the dawn of time, when the first cave paintings were created, and she will be with us until the end.

Alex Nye writes books for people of all ages. She is a Writer in Residence and a Creative Writing Mentor via the Scottish Book Trust and a Royal Literary Fund Fellow, and enjoys encouraging young people. She once graduated from King’s College, London and grew up in Norfolk, by the sea, but Scotland has been her home for a long time. She is a previous winner of the W. H. Smith Young Writers’ Award, run by Ted Hughes, the Royal Mail Award and Scottish Book Trust Award. Even the Birds Grow Silent is her seventh title.
