Flannery O”Connor, 1925 in Savannah im US-Bundesstaat Georgia geboren, studierte zunächst Soziologie. Mit dem Schreiben begann sie im berühmten Iowa Writer”s Workshop. 1951 wurde bei ihr Lupus erythematodes diagnostiziert, woraufhin sie auf die Farm ihrer Vorfahren zurückkehrte und dort Hühner, Enten, Gänse und hundert asiatische Pfauen hielt. Ihr Werk umfasst zwei Romane und 31 Kurzgeschichten. Flannery O”Connor starb am 3. August 1964 im Alter von 39 Jahren an den Folgen ihrer Krankheit.
