The revision of Liao History in Yuan Dynasty is the most basic and important document for studying and governing the history of Liao Dynasty. It alone forms the main cognitive framework of the history of Qidan Dynasty in the academic circle. However, there is little discussion on the source of historical materials and the compilation process of the Liao History. In order to thoroughly clarify the source of the Liao History, this book first makes a general discussion on the text sources of each part of the Liao History, and then separately studies the parts with more factors of historiographer compilation in the Liao History, including Record of Emperor Tianzuo, Yingwei Record, Bingwei Record, Geography Record, Li Record, Yue Record, Yiwei Record, Shihuo Record and "The story of the Western Liao Dynasty". This book systematically studies the source, generation process, existing problems and historical data value of the various parts of the Liao History, showing the life course of Liao History itself, and separating the narrative framework compiled and constructed by the historiographers of the Yuan Dynasty. At the same time, the book places the Liao History in the background of the generation and evolution of the ancient Chinese official history text, highlights its universality and special significance, makes a methodological reflection on the traditional historiography research, and explores the possible path of text criticism from the perspective of history.
