The novel is about the story happened in Republic of China period, Nanjing Qinhuai River, the geisha Tang had two daughters, one was called Er Chun and the other called Xiaochun, both of them were beautiful. Xiao Chun”s singing voice was outstanding, and she had become a singer girl, singing well. Yang Yuquan, a Shanghai money merchant, took a fancy to Xiaochun and made many mischievous attempts to rape Er Chun. Er Chun waited for the opportunity to revenge, and finally killed Wei Laoba and injured Yang Yuquan. Unfortunately, she was shot and killed. Yang Yuquan became more and more severe, and exerted his wanton influence on Tang and Xiaochun, forcing the mother and daughter to suffer. Finally, with the joint efforts of the lower class people along the Qinhuai River, Yang Yuquan was finally executed.
