Cover of Ann Wigglesworth: Friendship for Development (ePUB)

This illustrated book commemorates 20 years of the Friends of Suai/Covalima, a community to community relationship. A number of similar friendship groups were created between the people of Timor-Leste and Australia following the brutal struggle for Timorese independence from Indonesia and the violent aftermath of the independence vote.

Read how Friends of Suai/Covalima was initiated and maintained and what has been achieved to date. With clarity and feeling, the voices of many people are heard, both Timorese through interviews with the author and Australians, who recount directly their personal, often moving connections to the Friendship.

Of relevance to everyone who has an interest in Timor-Leste and a commitment to the empowerment of its people, the book also includes analysis of a development model that makes an important contribution to the field of development studies.
